Class Description
The Communication Compass: Strategies for Successful Human Engagement
Every person approaches communication from a unique perspective. Understanding your preferred communication style will help you become more self-aware, and understanding the preferences of others will help you become a more effective communicator.
This course is an interactive, experiential learning workshop designed to help people identify their personal communication preferences and develop strategies to enhance communication. By engaging in fun activities and healthy dialogue, participants raise awareness that each style is different and has different preferences, strengths, weaknesses, and viewpoints.
Participants will learn what each style listens for and how best to deliver information to them. They will discover that if they invest the time to treat others the way the other prefers, they may find themselves heard, meet their own needs, and save time in the long run.
Objectives:
This program will help participants to:
• Better understand themselves and how they like to communicate
• Better understand others and how they like to communicate and be communicated to
• Learn how to work together with others who have different styles than their own
• Learn about the consequences of over-using their style
• Practice techniques to leverage their learning to foster equity, inclusivity, and belonging
• Foster curiosity on how they might go deeper into becoming authentically mindful listeners through better questioning
This experience will help to increase organizational harmony, improve group dynamics, enhance inclusivity attitudes, strengthen employee engagement, and heighten talent retention.
