Class Description

This course is designed to equip leaders in city government agencies with the essential skills and strategies needed to effectively manage up within their agency. Managing up is crucial for leaders to navigate complex bureaucratic structures, influence decision-making processes, and drive positive change within their agencies. This course is ideal for current and aspiring leaders within city government agencies who seek to enhance their leadership capabilities, drive organizational growth, and foster collaborative relationships with superiors to achieve shared goals and objectives.

Participants will explore various techniques and best practices for building productive relationships with their superiors, effectively communicating their ideas, and advocating for their teams' needs while aligning with the agency's overarching goals. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and practical exercises, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of the importance of managing up as a leader in a city government context and gain the confidence to implement these strategies in their day-to-day responsibilities.
