Class Description

Course Description

AI is a hot topic from the news, to our kitchen tables. It's also a topic that many of you have heard about in your work in city government. While city agencies have used AI for years, there is greater interest in making use of AI systems in light of the technology’s rapid development—to make our government’s work more efficient, effective, and responsive to New Yorkers’ needs.

This training offers an introduction to what AI is, how it works, and what some of the key considerations are for using AI in city work. It also reviews the range of resources that are already available to city workers to support their exploration of this emerging technology.

Training Modules

There are two modules in this training:

  1. Module 1: Outlines the basics of what AI is, how it works, and key considerations to keep in mind when thinking about and using AI in your city work.
  2. Module 2: Introduces AI resources already available to City workers.

About the Series

This training is the first session in OTI’s NYC AI Expert Speaker Series. In the months ahead we’ll offer talks from experts from other governments, academia, industry, and civil society on a wide range of AI topics—from practical AI applications for government, to legal and ethical considerations, to what’s coming down the pike in this rapidly developing area.

The AI Speaker Series is for all City workers—not just technical teams. It aims to help you understand AI better, whether you will use it, create policy around it, support procurement or contracting, or assist the New Yorkers you serve as they navigate interactions with AI in their lives.
